Jesus Rocks

What is “JESUS rocks”?

“JESUS rocks” is a musical event as well as a long-term musical project.

After the “Taiwan Youth Convention, TKC’s fiftieth jubilee” in 1999, the “Gospel Pop Music group” was transformed into “Presbyterian Music Fellowship”, one of the ministry groups under PCT Youth Ministry Committee.

During the 2nd music workshop in 2001, the first Presbyterian “Pop Worship Rock Band” was formed to accommodate to the needs of the youth worship night.

The band is good at singing songs in Taiwanese, which is easily accepted by the Taiwanese spoken popularity in church, and its pop rock style and frequent introduction of popular western worship songs makes it even more interesting to young people.

The band led the “e-Generation Youth Concert” of the 50th anniversary of Sevenstar Presbytery and three other major worship sharing concerts in Taitung, Kaohsiung and Taichung with over a thousand people attending. On Christmas of 2001, the band supported the Christmas celebration concerts held by the Hsinchu Holiness Church, the Science Park and the Alliance of Churches in Tienmou. The band connected a group of young musicians with the same vision for gospel music.

We rock, because Jesus is the “Rock of Ages”! Because the wonderful Lord, the gentle shepherd Jesus we praise and sing to, is the One who shook traditions, who rocked old values, the One who rocked us, and this earth.

“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

“We rock because He rocked us all the way.”

“JESUS rocks” is not just a slogan to draw the attention of our young friends, but the rock spirit of following Jesus and not looking back. It’s a simple yet strong confession.

We don’t only hope to support the music ministries of church. We also hope to walk out of the church, and go into the world to proclaim the good news. We are hoping to have more and more young souls join in our mission spreading the gospel through music. We are hoping that one day, the gospel music industry will be as powerful as the pop music industry in Taiwan, and that such a ministry may not only be a part-time service, but a lifelong mission career.

“He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed.” Luke 4:18
