Key Strategies

The definition of PCT youth is a PCT member aged between 11 and 40, which covers several phases of one’s life span. Facing the ever-changing situation of younger generation and various youth missionary strategies, we still think that “pastoral care” and “Bible-Study training” are the two most important pillars for youth ministry:
1.Pastoral care: To benefit teenagers, we have held “Sunshine Youth Camp” for many years. Through experiential education, youths can have a clearer idea about the relationship among themselves, others, and God; thus, their faith can be established and deepened. To benefit university students and young adults, we hold “TKC Guide Training Camp” every year, subsidize presbyteries/districts to hold “Youth Guiding & Training Session” to train the youths to become spiritual guide and counsellors.
2.Bible-Study training: “Bible Study Camp for Young Adults” has extended Bible Study training from “Biblical Theology Study Camp for University Students” to cover young adults. In the future, we plan to cooperate with other youth departments and campus student centers of presbyteries/districts to hold “Bible Study coordinator training.” Through Contextual Bible Study method, youths will learn how to study Bible and respond to their contexts with new perspectives. Furthermore, we will promote “TKC Bible Study Movements” along with “Youth Shall See Visions (Bible reading handbook)”, campus student centers and the youth Bible study camps held by all presbyteries/districts.

Finally, through youth ecumenical ministry, we want to help the youth broaden their horizons, enrich their lives and learn abundantly. We lead the youths to understand and care different social issues; through the activities like ecumenical communication, religious dialogue, and care for the underprivileged, we encourage them to walk out of their comfort zones and see the reality of this diversified society.

Footnote: Fellowship founded in campuses by PCT is called “Tióng-Chheng fellowship”. Traditionally, the fellowship members use the name TKC to refer to their fellowship. But Tióng-Chheng and TKC (Tâi-oân Ki-tok Tiún-lό Kàu-hōe Chheng-liân Thoân-khè) both refer to PCT youth fellowship. Therefore, we hope the name TKC can be the common identification for PCT youths.

Plans of Ministry

1.Teenager Ministry:
A.Promote “Sunshine Youth Camp” as a brand-positioning camp to cultivate youths’ lives and faith through experiential education-“learning by doing”. The camp is divided into three steps.
Step 1: The Youth Ministry Committee will hold the demonstration camp.
Step 2: Presbyteries and districts will be invited to experience the arranged programs, and the Youth Ministry Committee will offer trainings to the staff.
Step 3: Promoting “Sunshine Everywhere.” Every presbytery/district will be encouraged to hold camps that are suitable to each local context in the name of Sunshine. We expect Youth Sunshine Camps with different features will blossom everywhere in Taiwan.
B.With regular publication of “Youth Shall See Visions (Bible-reading handbook)”, we encourage the youths to read Bible and practice spiritual formation every day. Also, youth Bible study camps are held by youth departments of presbyteries/districts and campus student centers together in order to promote the Bible-Study Movement.

2.Youth Leaders/Counsellors Training:
A.We hold “TKC Guide Training Camp” to train youth counsellors, and provide them with opportunities to meet each other and enhance themselves regularly.
B.We provide assistance and subsidy to youth departments of presbyteries/districts to arrange and host “Guiding and Training Session.” The youth departments are encouraged to be platforms for cross-church supporting counselor groups.
C.We hold “Bible Study Camp for Young Adults” with Higher Education and Indigenous Ministry committees to extend the spirit of “Biblical Theological Study Camp for University Students”, and promote “TKC Bible-Study Movement”.
D.We cooperate with the youth departments of presbyteries/districts and campus student centers to host “Bible Study Coordinator Training.” Through this program, on one hand, we will be able to train the Bible study coordinator groups for teenager Bible study camps held by presbyteries/districts; on the other hand, we can foster the coordinators for local churches and fellowship Bible study class.
E.We encourage youths to take all sessions like URM, TPN, OST and volunteer training, and empower themselves to become versatile persons.

3.Youth Ecumenical Ministry:
A.We hold “I love Taiwan Mission Camp (ILT)” and invite foreign and domestic youths to take part in summer missionary programs at local churches. We anticipate that through missionary programs at local churches, they may understand and identify with the people and context in Taiwan more. Through receiving foreign youths, the local church youths and members can also learn and experience ecumenical movement.
B.We cooperate with partner churches to hold “Ecumenical Youth Exchange Program (EYEP)”. By sending Taiwanese youths abroad or receiving foreign youths in Taiwan, the horizon of life and faith of the youths are expected to be broader through ecumenical interacting and learning.
C.We recruit youth delegates to participate conferences and training courses of ecumenical churches and organizations. (WCC, CWM, CCA, WCRC, etc.)
D.We hold “Translation and Interpreting Workshop” to cultivate youth ecumenical talents who are interested in translation and interpreting.
E.We hold “Northeast Asia Youth Forum” with Ecumenical Committee, Higher Education Committee and Indigenous Ministry Committee to discuss the Northeast Asia youth issues and promote ecumenism for all churches.
F.Establish youth ecumenical talent database.

4.Media (internet and publication) Ministry
A.Youth Committee English website is estimated to be completed in 2017. The latest information of Youth Committee will be continuously updated. We expect to provide a platform with more services, details, and abundant information.
B.We hope to integrate “Oh My God” website with “Chheng-Chheng” youth press (青青的報) to catch the latest news and make the youths’ voice heard through words, photographs and videos. “Setting out from youths’ points of views and sharing their stories and testimonies” is our slogan and we expect the churches can see the diversity of youths.
C.Through “PCT Youth” Facebook page and LINE@ official account, we want to share and interact with netizens the latest youth information.
D.News and reviews of church activities will be posted on Taiwan Church Press. Youth Committee will share the service programs, resources and execution results with churches.

5.Music Ministry:
A.The Indigenous gospel album “Yuan Yin Chuan Chang” debuted with the joint efforts of Youth Ministry Committee and Indigenous Ministry Committee to empower youth music ministry team.
B. With ministries of “Yuan Yin Chuan Chang”, we subsidize every presbytery/district to hold music talents cultivation programs, gospel song writing contests, and singing contests.
C. We invite youth music bands and “Jesus Rocks” (the gospel rock band of PCT youth committee) to hold musical gatherings and worships.

6.Connective Ministry:
A.By holding the annual “National Youth Summit”, we hope to connect and share experiences with youth ministries from every presbytery/district. Together, we seek the vision and discuss the programs of youth ministry.
B.The first Sunday of May (May 7th) is set to be “Youth Sunday”; Youth Ministry Center will design “Youth Sunday” worship program, and invite churches to hold Youth Sunday. The Youths are encouraged to serve in the worship, and churches are expected to be more concerned and supportive about youth ministry.
C.All presbyteries /districts are encouraged to appoint secretaries for youth ministry program to integrate youth resources among presbyteries/districts, plan missionary works, and take charge of the youth ministry of the presbyteries/districts.
D.All youth departments of every presbytery/district are encouraged to develop new youth ministry programs, and youth missionary works held by them will be subsidized.
E.We continuously concern about the youth issues, cooperate and discuss with other NGOs and NPOs, and advocate youth policies to make social structural reforms come true.
F.We proactively visit every presbytery/ district, institutions, and theological colleges and seminaries to share the youth ministry programs of General Assembly with them.
